What are warning signs of termite activity?
Now that we’re seeing some warm temperatures, it’s important to be on the lookout for signs of termites around your property.
- One warning sign is mud tubes, which look exactly how they sound. Termites use these to travel from their colony to the wood they’re eating.
- Swarmers are winged termites that reproduce. If you see their bodies or discarded wings on your floors or around your windows, it’s a sign of a termite infestation.
- Obviously, if you’re seeing blistering/damaged wood or bubbling paint, something is up. It could be a sign of water damage or termites eating part of the home. A pest tech can confirm if the damage is caused by termites.
- Exit holes are tiny holes in the walls or other parts of the house that termite swarmers use to leave where they’re eating. Once the swarmers leave, the termites seal up the holes with dirt.
- Lastly, termite droppings mean that termites are actively eating something in the area. Drywood termites leave droppings that look like piles of tiny wood pellets inside or outside the home.
If you notice these signs, make sure to contact a professional as soon as you can. Termite damage is rarely covered under homeowner’s insurance, so you want to stop them before it gets costly.
