1. Eliminate moisture in and around the home

4. Replace weather stripping and loose mortar around foundation/windows
5. Divert water away from the house through gutters and outdoor drainage
6. Inspect the foundation of a home for mud tubes
7. Check areas of wood, including windows/doorframes
8. Make sure there is an 18-inch gap between soil and any wood parts of the home
9. Store firewood at least 20 feet away from the house
